MAKOMnj is Jewish community reimagined. We offer warm, accessible and meaningful Jewish experiences. We meet in homes, event spaces and other interesting venues in and around Morris and Essex Counties. MAKOMnj hosts Shabbat meals and experiences, family fun, creative rituals based on the Jewish calendar, learning for adults, children and families and more. MAKOMnj offers many ways to engage in Jewish life.

Rabbi Ellie Miller is our rabbi and spiritual leader. Having worked as a congregational rabbi and educator for 20 years, Rabbi Miller has a keen sense of how to teach, inspire and lead.
YES! There is room for everyone in MAKOMnj, including interfaith families. We celebrate the choice you have made to be a part of the Jewish community and we hope to support you on your journey. At the same time, we are a Jewish community, not a multi-faith community. We encourage everyone who is on a spiritual journey to participate in the life of our community regardless of their religious background. Our goal is to walk with people on their journey through the richness and faith of Judaism.
Absolutely! At MAKOMnj people of all ages and all family configurations are welcome. Every program is open to the entire community. Many will be multigeneration and family friendly. Others will be for adults only. We welcome everyone; and as we grow, we will offer programming for the emerging needs of our community members at different stages of life. Get in now! YES! Rabbi Miller is available to help you celebrate the arrival of a new child, an upcoming wedding and remembering loved ones who have died. Rabbi Miller can also help you through the process of choosing Judaism. Birthdays, anniversaries, moving into a new home, getting a new job…let’s celebrate them in Jewish ways. We have a fee-for-service model with contribution amounts for all of our programs. MAKOMnj relies on the generosity of people who believe in our vision of building a community that offers warm, accessible and meaningful Jewish experiences. We welcome and encourage your financial support, though the amounts are voluntary. We trust that by offering something of value we will earn your support.
Of course! Many of our friends are involved in synagogues and temples. MAKOMnj is open to anyone.
At MAKOMnj people of all ages are welcome. Some programs are age specific like our TREE OF LIFE LEARNING PROGRAM. Other programs such as Torah study and adult learning in the sukkah are intended for adults. We welcome everyone! Rabbi Miller personally meets and gets to know every participant in MAKOMnj. She is passionate about building and nurturing relationships. Rabbi Miller wants to get to know your family, learn about your story, backgrounds and experiences and understand what you are seeking to experience within MAKOMnj.
